Share with your friends!

It’s time to start writing your Letters To Your Bridesmaids…and we’re here to help when you’re not quite sure what to say…

Your big day is all about celebrating the love you and your fiancé share – but it’s also about spending time with all of your closest friends and family. And there’s no one you’d rather spend your big day with than your closest girlfriends – aka, your bridesmaids!

text reads "letters to bridesmaids" and shows a bride smiling with two of her bridesmaids.

But asking someone to be your bridesmaid shouldn’t be as casual as, “hey, wanna be my bridesmaid?” – it should be special! And one special way to ask them to be part of your big day is to write them a letter!

Letters To Bridesmaids

But how do you write a bridesmaid proposal letter? Today we’ll get into that, as well as how to write a thank you letter, and so much more! But let’s start by talking more about our bridesmaids!

What’s the Difference Between a Bridesmaid and a Maid of Honor?

This is a question that gets asked all the time – and it’s important to distinguish the difference. Both the Maid of Honor and the Bridesmaids are essential to the wedding party.

With that being said, the Maid of Honor does hold a higher honor (no surprise there), and is the one who will help to ensure that everything runs smoothly both on the big day and before the big day.

She is the one who will help plan the bachelorette party and bridal shower, who will help ensure the wedding runs according to plan, and who will hold the bouquet at the ceremony.

With that being said, the bridesmaids also play a big role. They will do smaller tasks like picking up arrangements, helping to decide on details of the wedding, and of course, attend all wedding related activities.

They will also help to ensure that things run smoothly on the big day.

What is a Bridesmaid Proposal Letter?

There’s lots of different ways that you can ask someone to be in your bridal party. But one of our favorites is through a bridesmaid proposal letter.

This is a letter that will tug on the heartstrings of your best friends as you talk about your memories together and tell them why you want them to be in your bridal party. Of course, at the end of the letter, you’ll finish with, “will you be my bridesmaid?”

How do you Write a Bridesmaid Proposal Letter?

A proposal letter should be full of emotion and love. As we mentioned above, it will tug at the heartstrings of your best friends. You want your letter to be sentimental and heartfelt, and all about you and your friend.

In your letter you’ll want to talk about all of your favorite memories together, what you love so much about them, why you’re thankful they are in your life, and of course, why you are choosing them to be part of your bridal party.

You’ll also want to give them a heads up as to what role they will play in your wedding party. Will you want them to help with the planning? Do you need them there to help pick out your wedding dress?

Letting them know what you need from them will allow them to give you an honest answer as to whether they are available to fulfill the role or not.

Once you’ve finished pouring your heart out, now it’s time to ask, “will you be my bridesmaid?” Leave this question at the very end of your letter to make it meaningful.

What is a Bridesmaid Thank You Letter?

Your Bridesmaids play a huge role in your wedding and are there with you every step of the way.

They will be there when you choose your wedding dress, will be there to help you pick out wedding decor, and will be standing beside you on the big day. In other words, they’ll be putting a lot of effort and time into your wedding! So it’s only proper that you thank them for all of their hard work.

Once your wedding is finished, we suggest sending a thank you letter to your bridesmaids within a month or two. You can send this letter on its own, or many people like to send it with a little gift.

How do you Write a Thank You Letter to your Bridesmaids?

Just as your Proposal Letter should be emotional and heartfelt, so should your thank you letter. This is your chance to show how grateful you are that your friends were there for you during the biggest day of your life.

In your letter, don’t just say thank you, let your bridesmaid know why you were so thankful they were there on that day, as well well as in what ways they made your day more enjoyable.

Remember, these are some of your best friends, so don’t be over generic or formal. Make your thank you note personal to each bridesmaid.

This means each bridesmaid will get their own personalized note describing your experience with them. If you want, you can even include some photos that you captured along the way!

How To Send Bridesmaid Letters

When it comes to bridesmaids letters (both proposal and thank yous), we suggest going the old fashioned route. Avoid emails and text messages – these aren’t personal.

Send your bridesmaids a good ol’ fashioned letter. These will be much more personal and come off as more heartfelt and sincere. If you want, you can type your note and print it off, but we always suggest a handwritten note if you can!

Print or write your letter on a fancy cardstock or other type of printed paper. If you’re the crafty type, you can decorate your paper to match your wedding theme. Alternatively, you can find some printable templates online and draw up your letter on those.

In conclusion, your bridesmaids play an integral role not only in your wedding day, but also in other special occasions along the way (bachelorette party, bridal shower, dress shopping).

They put a lot of effort into making your day special for you, so it’s important that you put in the effort to make them feel special too. Ask your bridesmaids to be in your party with a heartfelt proposal letter, and don’t forget to thank them once all is said and done.
