In need of Small Town Date Ideas?

We. Love. Small. Towns.

No hustle and bustle of the big city. No commotion on the streets. Fresh air. A sense of community. The stars.

There are SO many reasons that we love small towns. Most small towns have all of the major conveniences of the big city (gas, food, groceries, etc), without all of the background noise. And they make the perfect place for a date. But what is there to do in a small town?

Small Town Date Night Ideas

Here are some of our favorite small town date ideas:

Stargazing

If you’re in a small town, a romantic stargazing date is just a must. When you live in the big city, you might see some stars here and there but they’re often clouded by pollution.

This can make stars smaller or more difficult to see.

But in a small town where there is little to no pollution, the stars are free to light up the sky.

Millions of stars can be seen in a small town, making it the perfect date night.

So throw on your hoodie, grab some of your favorite snacks, throw down a blanket, and snuggle up under the comfort of the night sky.

Don’t be afraid to break out the telescope if you have one – maybe you can even name a star after your date?

Go To The Local Theater

Not all small towns will have them, but many have local theaters. You might not get to go watch the big screen in a small town but you can go to a local production.

Community theaters often bring together local youth and put on dramatic or comical performances for the town.

Not only can these productions be an excellent date night, but they can also help you meet new people from in and around the community. Maybe you’ll meet a new double date couple?

If you’re lucky enough to have a drive in theater, this one is pretty obvious!

Be a Tourist

When was the last time you really explored your own town? We’re talking about a visit to the local museum, lunch at the local diner, and walks around the local parks and trails.

Well, this is your sign to do it.

If a tourist were to visit your town and ask you what there is to do there, what would you tell them?

Take your own advice and spend the day touring and enjoying your own town.

Go on a hike around town for a nice outdoor date!

Coffee Shop Date

Everyone loves coffee. And if you don’t, you may be sub-human.

Anyways, this isn’t about the coffee – it’s about the date.

And the coffee shop is a great place to go for a first date, a second date, or even a married date

Why? Sitting down over a nice hot cup of coffee (or drink of your choice) allows you to really connect with your partner.

We encourage you to leave the cell phones at home and sit down for a deep discussion. It doesn’t matter what you talk about, as long as you’re enjoying each other’s company.

If you’re all chatted out? Bring along a couple’s game or sit quietly and read books or listen to a podcast together!

The Park

As we get older, we often forget what it’s like to be a kid. But there are so many advantages to being a kid.

More specifically, children laugh way more than we do. They know how to live in the moment, be present, and let their stresses go.

So let’s take a lesson from the kids, and head back to our childhood with a date at your local park.

Chase each other down the slide, hold hands on the swings, spin in circles until you both fall down. Embrace your youthfulness and just have fun!

Here are some more fun Park dates you can try:

Babysit!

While we’re on the topic of kids, let’s talk about a less conventional date idea – babysitting.

Now we know, if you’re a parent, this probably doesn’t sound like a great date. And let’s be honest, it’s probably not.

So if you’ve got kids of your own, sit this one out and skip to the next date.

But if you don’t have kids of your own, babysitting can be a super fun date idea!

Not only do you get to help another couple out and act like kids together, but this gives you the opportunity to look at your date in a completely different light.

If you want kids of your own in the future, this can be a very insightful date.

Do they like children? How do they interact with children? Do children take to them? What will they be like as a parent?

Babysitting someone else’s kids is a great way to find out!

Basketball

Most small towns probably don’t have their own sports teams, but they will at least have their own basketball court – and this is a great place for a date. Grab a ball and play a fun game of one on one. Then, try some other great basketball games like Around the World.

Don’t be afraid to place some bets. Winner gets a kiss?

Try out other fun sports for couples while you’re at it.

ATVing

Ready to pump up the adrenaline? Country kids will know that you can’t have a bad day when you’re ATV-ing.

So even if you’re on a blind date that’s not going so well – it will still go well!

Make sure ahead of time that your date knows to bring some down-dress clothes and then head out in the mud and get messy!

When you’re done kicking things up, head out on the ATV into the middle of nowhere and surprise your date with a little packed picnic.

They won’t be able to wait to see you again!

Back Road Driving

If you’re on a first date, you might want to skip this one as you may give off some serial killer vibes.

But if you’re comfortable with your date and looking for something to do in a small town, hop in the car and explore the backroads. On their own, backroads are often scenic and beautiful. But on top of that, you’ll often find things that you didn’t know were there.

Head out with no time limit so that you can stop for photos or walks as your heart desires.

Most of all, just enjoy yourself and the calm of your small town! It’s the little things in life that can be appreciated the most – and small towns are one of them.
